17 years ago, my husband and I traveled 5,000 miles to Perm, Russia to adopt a 14 month old baby girl. We traveled 5,000 miles back home with her to Boston. And then our journey really began. I am often asked to describe the experience of raising a child with a disability - to try to help people who have not shared that unique experience to understand it, to imagine how it would feel.
What is life? Is death an end in itself or is it just a beginning to another cycle of life? What happens after we die? Where do we go? How is the afterlife? Also, the names will be changed to protect the privacies of the people involved. And soon we will have a link where you can contact your loved ones in the spirit world i.
When my sisters life tragically ended in 2009 I thought I would never smile from my heart again. The pain was unmeasurable and unbearable. I never imagined then that the new direction life had taken me on could bring me true happiness, let alone more peace and understanding about life and death than I ever had before, but through Zoe and her frequent visits a whole new and deeper understanding has evolved.
